To improve the use of lianas in urban river landscapephysico-chemical changes in five different lianassuch as Hedera nepalensisCelastrus orbiculatus Thunb.Rosahybrida ClimbingRosesJasminum mesnyi HanceEuonymus fortunei were analyzed during low temperature stress.Membrane permeabilitysuperoxide dismutase(SOD) activities and soluble protein contents in leaves of these five plants were measured at different temperatures. The results showed that membrane permeabilitySOD activity and soluble protein contents all increased as the temperature lowered and the time prolongedwhich indicated that the three factors could be used as the indexes to leaf cold resistance of the five plants.Among the five plantsE.fortunei showed the highest cold resistancewhile C.orbiculatus showed the lowest cold resistance than the others.
